Mateo is terrible at speaking English. Actually no, i shouldn't say speaking. Mateo is terrible at comprehending English. There, just needed to put that out there. This needed to be established foremost. I mean he's a great guy and probably one of the nicest guys I've met in these times. But the guy, i mean seriously. This guy is unbelievable.
There was a story i heard through the grape vine and it just shows what i mean. So Mati was in charge of writing a letter to the red barrier- wait no. You don't know who that is ok let me explain. The red barrier is the army that protects the shores of Pontitime. OK good so now that that's that i can continue. Mati had to send a letter to the red barrier explaining that the Jade Mawth- that's the police Captain remind you, was going on a peace mission to report suspicious activity from the bordering country. So Mati writes the letter and sends it out via carrier pigeon. Sometime later the lieutenant Neil calls him into his office.
He says, "Mateo there is a problem." and Mateo is confused. "What's wrong?" He asked. Neil asks him, "Whats the abbreviation for Captain Mateo? Come in sit, please." So Mateo sits and Neil pulls out a sheet of paper and a pencil. "Write the abbreviation here." and Mateo does just that. Here's the funny part. "See that's not how you write it. The letter you sent the Red Barrier wasn't proper. What you sent said, "Cap'n Mawth's ship will be arriving."" Mateo asked, "Whats wrong with Cap'n?" "Well the problem is that the Red Barrier wrote back and they wont stop making pirate jokes. Here's the letter they sent back."
Mateo read it out loud, ""To the Cap'n, greeting matey. We will be fine with this as ling as the great Cap'n Mawth doesn't try to plunder our Booty. Set sails for high see's soon. Cant wait to see his bearded face. Arg, The Red Barrier" That's so rude they didn't even say 'from the red Barrier' they just said arg."
"That's not the point. Mateo the abbreviation is CAPT. C-A-P-T."
"But captain calls himself cap'n."
"Well the captains a little crazy, but that doesn't mean you should broadcast it!"
Then the captain entered the room and asked. "So what is this and why am i suddenly a pirate?" Neil told him the reason and Mati apologized but the captain wasn't even mad. And that's why he goes by cap'n today.

Something i thought about while taking notes in class yesterday. I had to take notes on the police captain in 'L.A confidential' and i got tired of writing captain and decided to shorten it. I knew i was using the wrong cap'n but i liked that one better
